Anncrispin:	Well, as to the ideas part, writers get ideas all the time, from all sorts of sources.

MindEfreet:	yup.. not really dangerous any more but you never know when she will have a relaps
Anncrispin:	Matter of fact, it's like an idea "muscle" in your brain.  Once you start exercising it, it
Anncrispin:	gets very strong and works very well.  It's hard NOT to get ideas after a while.

Anncrispin:	And second...Write in your own universe.
RELM Astra:	Good question, JT - Ann? What do you do when you get stuck?
Anncrispin:	Not Star Trek, or Pern or Star Wars...your own universe, your own characters.

Anncrispin:	When I get stuck I go back to my characters and spend time with them.  I write things

Anncrispin:	from their point of view.  Like journal entries and stuff.  When I really know the
Anncrispin:	characters, the plot problems usually resolve themselves.

Anncrispin:	Well, to me the story usually springs from the characters.  I get an idea, and then look for

Anncrispin:	Also C.L. Moore and C.J. Cherryh...
RELM Astra:	What was it like writing with Norton?

Anncrispin:	As to who I read nowadays...I love George R.R. Martin, Megan Lindholm, Barbara Hambly,
Anncrispin:	Barbara Michael, Elizabeth Peters, Ursula K. LeGuin, Jane Austen, Charles
Anncrispin:	Dickens...I read pretty eclectically.
MindEfreet:	Do you ever feel a let down after you finish reading a very good novel/story
Anncrispin:	Andre Norton is one of the world's few remaining true "ladies" in the old fashioned sense.
Solstice62:	Is it tough to move back & forth from reading good stuff to writing your own?
Anncrispin:	She is gracious, kind, charming and very sharp, even at her age.
RELM Astra:	What a wonderful compliment to her.
Anncrispin:	She can remember the plots to stories other people wrote 50- years ago.
Anncrispin:	She's also got a very nice sense of humor -- never mean, rather droll.
Anncrispin:	I love spending time just talking to her.  We talk every Friday afternoon.

Anncrispin:	I didn't really make that choice.  I just woke up one day and found I had to tell a story
Anncrispin:	and that I was the ONLY one who could tell it.  So I started writing.
Anncrispin:	And I really like being a writer.  The only thing I might like better would be being a
Anncrispin:	detective who hunts down scam artists and brings them to justice.  I love doing
Anncrispin:	investigation work for SFWA, finding scam artists posing as publishers and agents and
Anncrispin:	alerting people about them.  It's a real kick...
Anncrispin:	But I love writing, too.

Anncrispin:	LOTS.
Anncrispin:	There are many, many desperate would-be authors out there.

Anncrispin:	I would say the third Han Solo novel, Rebel Dawn, was a real
toughie.
Anncrispin:	Sarek was no picnic either.  But I think RD may have been harder.

RELM Astra:	Because of constrictions of the Universe?
Anncrispin:	Rebel Dawn will be out March 9, btw.
Anncrispin:	Rock...I kept thinking I would die before I could finish it.  No
joke.
Anncrispin:	I felt like the universe was against me...Not sure why.
MindEfreet:	challenging to create the materal and difficulty in writing it in
an interesting way
Anncrispin:	I was pretty burned out from writing so many books in such a
short time.
Anncrispin:	I am no Kevin Anderson or Peter David.

Anncrispin:	Mostly just one after another, but I will sometimes have 2 books
at different stages.
Anncrispin:	For example, I'll be drafting a proposal for one while I'm
writing another.
